Really powerful summary of truth and consequences for human expansion. The problems we humans have created will be put back in balance by natural cycles: whatever the laws and timelines demand. We humans are not psychologically engineered (by nature) to deliberately limit ourselves. Our physiology demands the quest, supports the explorer, promotes the expedition to expanding futures. I can’t see that a deliberate social movement of retreating to a drastically lower human population will ever get popular traction politically or culturally—with the one exception of pain and sacrifice as an aspect of human-on-human war. We are engineered by our very existence for conflict. The natural course correction from where we are today seems likely to involve accelerating global boiling, vast areas of climatic rearrangement, powerful and dramatic storms, and civilizational collapse punctuated with human-on-human conflict. Whatever comes out the other side will become the next era of life on Earth. Humans may or may not be part of that paradigm.

Well written. However...why do you keep calling oil "fossil fuel"? Do you believe the crafted Rockefeller's legend that it came from decomposed dead plants and animals? Any proof? One more scam to instill into our minds that this so-called "fossil fuel" is about to end and we have to submit to solar energy. Just like the climate Armageddon.
